Okami Pups

Understanding Eye Color Terms

    Eye colors
When the puppies are born, their eyes are sealed shut for about the first 10 to 15 days. When they finally open, all of the puppies will have hazy gray/blue colored eyes. It is not until about the fourth week that the real color can be established and that's when we post the eye colors on the website.

We can often take a fairly educated guess at eye color shortly after they open. If we can catch the light just right on the eye, it is often possible to see the color it is most likely to be, but we will not post that puppy's eye color on the website until we are absolutely sure.

However, even after we think we are certain of the colors and post them on the website, on some rare occasions, the eyes may still change even after 8 or more weeks old. This is especially true of Huskies with red fur colorings but it can happen with other colors too.

Eye colors are purely a cosmetic issue. They in no way indicate anything about the dog or it's behavior or abilities. Regardless of eye color, the Okami Huskies are loving and friendly dogs that make great pets and companions.

This means the puppy or dog can have one Brown eye OR one Blue eye and the other eye will be a combination of Brown and Blue.

This is fairly rare, probably one in twenty-five or thirty pups will have this eye coloring. The Parti-eye is most common with an accompanying Blue eye. Sometime even both eyes can be parti-colored
